Lesson Overview
World War II, which began in 1939 and ended in 1945, was the deadliest and most destructive war in history. Before the war, Germany, America, and the rest of the world were going through the Great Depression. The economy was very bad, unemployment was at an all-time high, and massive inflation caused money to lose its value. More than fifty nations in the world were fighting, with more than 100 million soldiers deployed. Countries like America and Britain were part of the Allied powers. Japan and Germany were part of the Axis powers.

Technology WWII "Prezi" Group Project
Topic: World War II
Grade level: 9th-10th grade
Subject(s): United States History
AZ State Standard: Strand 1 Concept 8: Great Depression and World War II P.O 2 Describe the impact of American involvement in WWII: c. home front transformations in the roles of women and minorities, e. war mobilization (e.g., Native American Code-Talkers, minority units, media portrayal).
NETS-S:
NETS-S 1 Creativity and Innovation: Students will demostrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products using and processes using technology. a) Students will create a Prezi presentation to show their personal or group expression.
NETS-S 3 Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. b) Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media.
Essential Question: How did the homefront transformations in the roles of women and minorities contribute to World War II?
Brief Overview of Project:
Planning
How will the students:
Knowledge gaining: The students will gain knowledge on how the homefront transformations and minorities contributed in World War II by utilizing several different online resources. The first thing students will do to learn the background of World War II and what it was about they will watching videos on various aspects of the world via http://www.history.com/interactives/wwii-experience. I also will assign the students books that are specifically geared towards the topic. After students have watched the video clips, the students will be allowed to used Google scholar, Ebsco host, or Jstor as reliable sources. I also will allow students to search www.history.com to find more information for their projects on WWII but this can not be their sole resource. Lastly, prior to the students presenting their material we as a whole class will discuss what that have learned thus far and progress has been made on their final projects.
Knowledge organizing: Students will be placed in groups of six depending on what topic they have chose for the final project. Students can focus their project on one of the two topics: women transformations or minority contribution during WWII. Students can also use bubbl.us to brainstorm their ideas for the final project and present their ideas to the After the groups are formed they will have to create a Prezi presentation on the information they have gathered including videos embeded into the project to give their peers more of an understanding of the assigned topic.
Knowledge sharing: To share what they have learned from the information gathered students will create a unique Prezi presentation in groups. Students will also need to bring in a hard copy of their brainstorming ideas from bubbl.us prior to presenting the final material for an individual grade.
